ALTON - The James Killion Beautification & Enhancement Committee is inviting the public to James Killion Day 2026 on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at James Killion Park for a pre-Memorial Day celebration honoring the legacy of James Killion Jr. and highlighting this year’s youth-focused theme, “It’s All About the Children — Invest in Them Now!”
The all-day event will feature an afternoon ceremony from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and an evening community concert from 6 to 8 p.m., according to the committee.
The committee said the 2026 celebration will focus on “uplifting and supporting the next generation through community engagement and giving.”
In support of that theme, attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies and donations payable to the Boys & Girls Club of Alton. The committee said no cash donations will be accepted.
Judge Duane Bailey will serve as the keynote speaker. The committee described Bailey as “widely respected throughout the region for his years of service, leadership, and dedication to the community as a retired Madison County Judge.”
The afternoon ceremony is planned as “an inspiring afternoon of fellowship, recognition, community pride, and reflection honoring the Killion family legacy,” the committee said.
The evening portion of the event will feature a community concert hosted by the committee, with music by the NGK Band under the band shell.
Community members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, coolers, and snacks.
The committee said it is encouraging churches, families, organizations, and community supporters throughout the region to attend the celebration.
