The win gives the Tigers a final regular-season record of 24-11 as Edwardsville hosts an IHSA Class 4A regional this week, starting on Wednesday.

Edwardsville threatened in the top of the third with a pair of walks, while the Bulldogs threatened in the home half when a walk and a double put runners on second and third with two out, but Waterloo failed to score.

The Tigers got the only runs of the game in the top of the fourth, starting with a lead-off walk to Jack Kirgan, and a Tyson Wampler single that put runners at first and second. Nick Chiarodo sacrificed both runners to second and third, with Chiarodo himself reaching on the play, and an RBI single to center by Ty Hunt scored Kirgan and sent Wampler to third, Edwardsville going ahead 1-0. After a strikeout, Sam Nosacono, seeing his first action after returning from injury, stroked an RBI single to score Wampler, but Hunt was thrown out at second for the second out of the inning. A groundout ended the inning, but the Tigers led 2-0.

Waterloo loaded the bases in the fifth, then threatened in the sixth on a double and another batter being hit by a pitch, but both times failed to score. The Bulldogs were retired in order in the seventh to preserve the 2-0 win for the Tigers.

Both Hunt and Nosacono had hits and RBIs for the Tigers, while Andrew McCutchen, Kirgan, Wampler, and Chiarodo had the other hits on the day.

Chiarodo started on the mound and pitched one inning, allowing no hits or runs while walking none and striking out two. Wampler pitched in the second, also allowing no hits or runs while walking none and striking out none.

Hunt threw in the third and was credited with the win, allowing only two hits while walking none and striking out none. Calyx Wise pitched in the fourth, allowing no hits or runs while also walking none and striking out none. Jax Andreas pitched in the fifth, conceding two hits while walking none and striking out none. Brady Hasquin threw in the sixth, giving up a hit while walking none and striking out none. Chase Grote wrapped up the game for the Tigers, pitching the seventh inning and allowing no hits or runs while walking none and striking out one.

The Bulldogs finish the regular season 22-8, while Edwardsville finishes 24-11 and opens the IHSA Class 4A playoffs Wednesday in its own regional, taking on Granite City at 4 p.m. The regional final will take place Saturday morning, with either the Tigers, Generals, or Warriors meeting the winner of Quincy and Collinsville at 10 a.m.

The Edwardsville regional winner plays the Belleville East regional winner in a neutral-site game in the Normal Community sectional on June 3 at SIU-Edwardsville's Roy E. Lee Field at the Simmons Baseball Complex at 6 p.m.
