Evidence Markers Cover Intersection After Reported Shooting

A vehicle riddled with gunfire became the center of a major investigation Tuesday in Venice. Police and crime scene teams combed the area as the victim's condition remained unknown.

VENICE - Venice Police Department responded Tuesday afternoon to a reported shooting at the intersection of Market Street and Selb Street in Venice.

Officers arriving at the scene found a victim who had been shot inside a vehicle. EMS personnel transported the victim by ambulance to a hospital in St. Louis. The victim’s condition has not yet been released.

The vehicle appeared to have more than 14 bullet holes throughout it, and several evidence markers were placed around the scene by investigators.

Authorities also observed that a nearby house had been struck by gunfire. An Illinois State Police crime scene investigator was collecting evidence at the scene.

Authorities Investigate Shooting at Market and Selb Streets

Madison County Sheriff Department,Granite City Police Department,Pontoon Beach Police Department and Madison Police Department responded to help with crowd control.

Multiple Illinois State Police detectives were seen canvassing the neighborhood for information related to the shooting.

At this time, authorities have not announced whether any suspects are in custody.
