Distracted driving remains a serious public safety issue across the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 3,200 lives were lost in distracted driving incidents in 2023 alone. Through the scholarship program, TorHoerman Law is encouraging students to engage with the issue directly by sharing their perspectives on how communities, lawmakers, and individuals can work together to reduce distracted driving.
The firm created the scholarship to encourage young people to take an active role in improving roadway safety.
“We routinely see the devastating consequences that distracted driving can have on individuals and families,” said Tyler Schneider, Managing Partner at TorHoerman Law. “Even a few seconds of looking away from the road can permanently change someone’s life. This scholarship is meant to encourage students to think seriously about the issue and be part of the conversation about making our roads safer.”
Distracted driving extends beyond texting behind the wheel. It includes behaviors such as adjusting the radio, eating while driving, or turning to speak with passengers. Even brief moments of diverted attention can have life-altering consequences.
