
GLEN CARBON - Father McGivney Catholic advanced to the final of its regional Saturday, May 30, 2026, after defeating Breese Mater Dei Catholic 9-8 in a regional semifinal on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Father McGivney Regional.
The host Griffins, now 27-9, built an early 4-3 lead after two innings and added a run in the fifth. Mater Dei tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth, but McGivney answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 9-5. The Knights scored three times in the seventh, but the rally fell short.

Omar Avalos led McGivney with two hits and two RBIs, while Scott Phelps had two hits and an RBI. Isaac Wendler doubled, and Paddy Martin, Brendan Kayser, and Ty Etcheson each added a single hit.
Jacoby Danco struck out five on the mound for the Griffins.
McGivney will play the winner of Breese Central and Greenville in the regional final at 12 noon Saturday. Mater Dei finished its season at 17-19.
In another regional semifinal, Freeburg eliminated Trenton Wesclin 10-0.
