3 Purple Coats Productions, under the direction of playwright and creative director LJ Becoat, partners with everyday community members to create powerful devised theater rooted in real-life experiences. Through a collaborative process of storytelling, conversation, and performance, participants help shape an original one-act production that reflects honest perspectives on race, identity, heartbreak, healing, and human connection. Their stories become the foundation for a theatrical experience that is raw, soulful, thought-provoking, and often infused with moments of humor and hope.
This unique community-centered performance invites audiences into deeply personal stories that explore lived experiences, relationships, racial identity, and the importance of finding common ground through empathy, creativity, and dialogue. Audience members will experience moments that are humorous, heartfelt, challenging, and deeply relatable while witnessing how storytelling can bring people together across backgrounds and perspectives.
On-stage participants include Toni Booth, Dr. Tracy W. Cooley, Becky Cowart, Jared Hennings, Sandra Rice Hall, Nicholas Jackson, Dr. Dee Dee Jones, Ruth Meyer, Jaida Moore, Michelle Obermeyer, and Apryll Pittman.
A community Question & Answer and discussion will follow the performance.
