JERSEYVILLE - The City of Jerseyville will host its first “Rock the Block” concert of the season tonight, and musician Jake Maurer can’t wait to take the stage.

From 7–10 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, Maurer will perform a mix of covers and original songs at City Center Plaza between Germania and Dairy Queen in downtown Jerseyville. The free “Rock the Block” concert has a block party feel with live music and fun for all ages.

“It’s always a good turnout and a good time,” Maurer said. “We’re just running around, living the country music dream.”

Maurer plays at Tootsie’s in Nashville, Tennessee, five nights a week. He enjoys traveling for shows and has made a point to stop in Jerseyville at least once a summer for the past several years.

His wife grew up in Jerseyville, and Maurer joked that the turnout from her family is a major reason why he loves playing in her hometown.

“It’s my wife’s hometown. I love it here so much,” he said. “She’s related to half the town, so we get a good turnout from family alone, which always helps.”

The KC Hall will serve food and drinks, including burgers, hot dogs and beer. There will also be a few food trucks selling their wares at City Center Plaza. Maurer encourages people to come hungry and enjoy the show.

Jerseyville residents and guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and relax for the evening. The splash pad will stay open late until 8:30 p.m., making it a fun night for kids of all ages.

Maurer loves performing at “Rock the Block,” and he enjoys traveling with his band to bring the Nashville feel, sound, and music and his band with communities across the country.

“We’re getting around this year. It’s great. It’s good to be working,” he laughed. “It is really fun to bring the caliber of music that I get to play with every night. It’s so awesome. I’m the least talented person in my band for sure. We’ve got a fiddle. We’ve got guitar. We’ve got all the things to make playing so great. It’s just fun that we get to bring it back to Southern Illinois.”

Maurer is especially excited to perform his song “Millionaire” in Jerseyville tonight because his oldest daughter, 16, will join him onstage to sing it as a duet. He can’t wait to share this experience with their extended family in the audience.

He encourages people to come by City Center Plaza for a fun night of live music and the hometown community feel.

“Come out, hang out, get a good spot, and it’ll be a good night,” he said.

Sponsored by the City of Jerseyville, “Rock the Block” promises another great season of music this summer. For more information, visit the city’s official website.
