
COLUMBIA - Six different players - three in each half - scored for Father McGivney Catholic, as Peyton Ellis recorded the clean sheet in goal, as the Griffins dethroned defending IHSA Class 1A state champion Columbia 6-0 in the sectional final Friday evening at Columbia.

The win marks the first time McGivney has advanced to the state super-sectional/quarterfinal match in the program's history; the match will take place Monday evening at Civic Memorial's Hauser Field.
Kinley and Harper Dettmers, Layla Tobin, Sofia Rossetto, Erin Kretze, and Natalie Beck all scored for McGivney in the match, while Beck dealt out three assists for a five-point night. Ellis made five saves in goal to get the clean sheet for the Griffins.
The Eagles end their season at 15-9-1, while the Griffins go to 21-2-3 and will play in the state quarterfinal match against Litchfield, who won their own sectional over Marquette Catholic 3-1 on Friday, in the CM super-sectional quarterfinal match Monday at 5 p.m. The winner goes to the state finals next weekend at North Central College in Naperville, and will play in the first state semifinal against Elmhurst Timothy Christian, Herscher, or Lisle Senior Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. The third-place game will be played June 5 at 9:30 a.m., and the state final is set for June 6 at 2:30 p.m.
