Sparklight Male Athlete Of The Month: Jersey's Bradley Tueth Places Third In 400 Meters At State

CHARLESTON — Jersey’s Bradley Tueth delivered a career-best performance Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Charleston, breaking the 49-second barrier in the 400 meters and finishing third at the IHSA Class 2A state track and field meet in 48.80 seconds.

Tueth said afterward he was ecstatic about the result, which also earned him recognition as a Sparklight Male Athlete of the Month for his state performance.

“I was third place last year. I had a down year and didn’t make state. I knew what I wanted this year at state and made it happen,” Tueth said in a post-race interview.

Tueth said the atmosphere before the 400-meter race sharpened his focus.

“When I got set in my blocks, I looked up and noticed it was packed, and I knew I had to perform,” he said.

He said his finishing kick had been central to his approach throughout the season and in his preparation for the race.

“The kick has been my strongest point all year, going over the race in my mind a lot over the past 24 hours, and I knew it would be a big kick to be where I wanted to be,” Tueth said.

Tueth also credited coach Toni Goetten for her support.

“Coach Goetten is super supportive. Without her, I wouldn't be doing track. She is always motivating me in the most stressful times like this,” he said.
