'Uptick In Property Crimes and Vehicle Break-Ins:' Collinsville Police Urges Residents to Take Steps

COLLINSVILLE - The Collinsville Police Department is urging residents in Collinsville, Illinois, to take steps to protect their property as warmer weather increases property crimes and vehicle break-ins across the community. In a community safety reminder, the Collinsville department said it is seeing an “uptick in property crimes and vehicle break-ins” and said most of the incidents are “crimes of opportunity.”

“Protect What’s Yours,” the department said in the post, encouraging residents to reduce opportunities for theft by locking vehicles, securing homes and reporting suspicious activity.

The department advised residents to lock their vehicles every time, even during short stops, and to never leave car keys inside their vehicles.

It also urged people not to leave valuables such as bags, electronics, purses and tools in plain sight, recommending they be placed in the trunk or taken along.

Collinsville Police also encouraged residents to secure their homes by checking that doors and windows are locked, especially before bedtime, and to consider motion-sensor lights around homes and garages.
