Today's Weather: Hot, mostly sunny and a storm chance tonight

Heat index values near 100 are possible Wednesday afternoon before a higher chance of thunderstorms arrives in the evening.

Wednesday starts warm and humid with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s. It already feels like the low 80s early, so the day gets going with a little extra stickiness before the heat really builds.

By afternoon, the sun stays in control for most of the day as temperatures climb to a high near 92. South-southwest wind will run around 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 23 mph. Rain chances stay low through the daylight hours at about 25%, but the heat will be the bigger story, with feels like temperatures pushing near 100.

During the evening, a stray thunderstorm may pop up, with rain chances rising to 55%. Any storm could bring a quick downpour and gusty wind, but many spots should stay dry. After that, skies turn mainly clear again while the air stays warm and humid.

Overnight, temperatures ease back to a low around 74 with a light south-southwest breeze. It will stay muggy late into the night, so open-window weather this is not.

The allergy index is worth watching Wednesday. Tree pollen is high, while grass pollen is moderate. Air quality is good.

Thursday looks hotter, with a high near 95 and a low around 65. Expect a breezy day with a better chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, and some could turn strong.
