Megan Hodge, former head cheerleading coach at Alton High School, said Davis’ selection reflects his talent, determination, and work ethic.
“As his former coach, I had the privilege of watching him grow into one of the most talented and dedicated athletes I have ever coached,” Hodge said.
Landon Davis is an Auto Butler Male Athlete of the Month for Alton High.
She said Davis also competed during his junior year with Platinum Athletics in Maryland Heights, Missouri, which she described as one of the premier all-star cheerleading programs in the region.
“Most recently, Landon tried out for an All-Star Cheerleading team in Miami, Florida for Top Gun All Stars, one of the most respected and successful cheerleading programs in the world,” Hodge said. “After an extremely rigorous tryout process, Landon earned a coveted spot on their Senior Large Coed Level 6 team, one of the highest and most difficult levels in all-star cheerleading.”
Hodge said Davis’ move to Miami is tied to his effort to continue advancing in the sport.
“This week, Landon will relocate to Miami to continue pursuing his dream while completing his senior year in Florida,” she wrote.
In additional comments included with the story idea, Hodge described Davis as “a phenomenal, excellent student” and “overall a wonderful kid,” adding that he is “a great student and extremely determined.”
Hodge said Davis’ achievement of becoming a member of the All-Star Cheerleading team in Miami is rare.
“He went out of his way to try out for this team, and only 1 percent of athletes ever get on the team. It is so hard to get on the team,” Hodge said.
She also said the opportunity could affect his future in college athletics.
“With Landon going into his senior year, being on the world champion team opens so many doors for colleges to recruit him,” Hodge said in the provided comments.
Hodge said she supported Davis’ pursuit of all-star cheer and was confident in his chances of making the team.
“He told me a while back he was going to try out for the Top Gun team. He was so nervous about it, but I told him there is no doubt he would make it. We talked about it for about 15 minutes before I received a call that he had made the team. I was not surprised; I was confident he would make it."
She called it “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” and “truly a dream come true, a huge deal for the area.”
Hodge said Davis’ path from the Riverbend area to a world-champion program stands out because of the commitment involved.
“His journey from the Riverbend area to one of the most elite programs in the world is an inspiring example of what can happen when talent, determination, and relentless hard work come together,” she said.
