GODFREY - As Vitality Women’s Clinic prepares to conclude their Baby Bottle Campaign, Executive Director Jackie Duty emphasized the importance of giving toward the organization’s work.
Vitality is a pro-life, faith-based pregnancy clinic that provides free pregnancy and STI testing, ultrasounds and other resources to individuals experiencing unplanned pregnancies. They do not refer for or perform abortions. Duty highlighted their work and the building “momentum” they are experiencing, and she noted that donations will help the clinic continue to offer their services.
“Every penny helps,” she said. “This is actually the second biggest fundraiser that we do throughout the year. It’s what will actually carry us through the rest of the year. So we desperately need everybody’s help. It’s so important. I can’t stress enough how we need this.”
Duty thanked the team, including student intern Matthew Maag who has spent the past several months working with Vitality. Maag shared that he discovered Vitality at a student resource fair at Lewis and Clark Community College. He connected with the team and started working as their intern.
“What they do is completely centered around family,” he said. “I was thinking it was just going to be this little side thing that I was going to do, but it’s like the most important activity to me that I’m doing in college.”
Maag will help Vitality launch its student ambassador program. This program encourages high school and college students to join Vitality’s pro-life, faith-based mission by spreading the word. Maag looks forward to the chance to “connect with young people who share the purpose.”
There are several other volunteer opportunities available. The new PR and marketing team will focus on publishing press releases, managing Vitality’s social media pages, and completing other work to support Vitality’s mission. The street team will be present at events and vendor fairs to share information about Vitality's services.
But Duty is especially excited about the Grandma Gang, a new initiative that encourages older women to write letters to expecting parents. She has been delighted to find that the Grandma Gang’s letters resonate with these parents.
She has also discovered that many of these older adults are widows, which inspired Vitality to create a “Pennies from Heaven” grief support group. The group will meet at 10 a.m. on Mondays at Vitality’s clinic in Godfrey. They will complete crafts and connect with one another. Duty noted that anyone experiencing grief is welcome to attend.
Vitality’s mission resonates with everyone on staff, including Maag. He hopes to one day become a mentor to younger people, “like a big brother.” He looks forward to Vitality’s new men’s ministry, which Maag will play a big role in starting.
“[I want to] help them figure out what the right thing to do is, give them guidance centered on Christ. The men’s ministry is not only a perfect chance for me to do that, but also it’s ahead of its time already because it’s exactly where we need to be,” he said. “A lot of guys out there who don’t really have a lot of guidance, who don’t really know what it is they need to do in order to serve the community the best they can — this is what’s going to give them that.”
Duty is eager to watch Maag start his future at Vitality, and she is pleased that the entire Vitality team is connected and engaged. She believes this engagement will keep the organization moving forward.
She hopes people will continue to donate to the Baby Bottle Campaign through Father’s Day. You can also reach out about volunteering. Duty is proud to be a part of the mission and hopeful she can encourage more people to join them.
“Everyone here is so passionate about pursuing the purpose of the organization,” she added. “We’re always running and excited about the work we do. Synergy happens when you surround yourself with people who are that passionate about the mission. Things just start to happen. When everyone’s running in the same direction, it’s crazy. It can change the landscape of, I believe, our community and our region. I think that’s what’s happening.”
