Davidsmeyer first collaborated with IDOT in November 2025 after what he described as a bad car accident at the dangerous S curve.

The IDOT-Davidsmeyer plan called for larger, more visible traffic warning signs at the Heinold Curve site.

Earlier this year, after the same curve was the scene of a school bus accident, Rep. Davidsmeyer again contacted IDOT, this time seeking rumble strips on the roadway.

“When the bus accident happened, I immediately reached out to IDOT requesting rumble strips, which became the plan of action in mid-May,” Davidsmeyer said. “IDOT was very responsive and great to work with to help find solutions to this dangerous S curve."

Rep. Davidsmeyer added: "The real work continues to find the funding to straighten out the curve altogether.”

According to Davidsmeyer and IDOT, the estimated cost to straighten the highway and remove the S curve is about $10 million.
