Two Drivers Hurt In Wood River Truck Crash

Preliminary findings point to a westbound pickup entering the eastbound lane on Edwardsville Road, where it struck another truck and injured both drivers.

WOOD RIVER - Two teenage drivers were injured Thursday, June 25, 2026, in a two-vehicle crash on the 1900 block of Edwardsville Road in Wood River after a westbound Ford Ranger crossed into the eastbound lane and struck another truck, according to preliminary investigation findings, Chief Brad Wells announced on Friday, June 26, 2026.

The crash happened a little before 5 p.m. Thursday in Wood River. Chief Wells said that, according to a preliminary police report, the red truck was traveling westbound when its driver appeared to fall asleep, causing the Ford Ranger to enter the eastbound lane and hit the other truck.

Both drivers, who were teenagers, were transported to hospitals in the St. Louis area. No statements on their conditions were available, Chief Wells said.

The crash scene remained active for quite a while as ambulances responded during a time of heavy traffic.

The Schnuck’s entrance and the new gas station between those entrances at the intersection were not related to the crash.
