
ALTON — Ryan Lowis had three hits and three RBIs, and Jayce Steinkuehler drove in three runs Monday night as Alton Post 126 defeated Smithton Post 937 11-1 in a District 22 American Legion baseball game at Lloyd Hopkins Field in Gordon Moore Park.

The win came after Alton dropped two of three games over the weekend at a tournament in Washington, Missouri. Post 126 improved to 12-7 and has won three of its last six games.
Alton scored in every inning except the third. Post 126 took control early with four runs in the first inning and two more in the second for a 6-0 lead. Smithton scored once in the top of the third to make it 6-1, but Alton answered with three runs in the fourth and added single runs in the fifth and sixth to end the game by the 10-run rule, 11-1.
Lowis led Alton with three hits and three RBIs. Steinkuehler had two hits and three RBIs, while John Kunz collected two hits and drove in one run. Landon Sitze and Dylan Vandiver each had a hit and an RBI. Joe Stephan, Tate Powell and Nolan Bowsher had one hit apiece, and John Kodros drove in a run.
Hayden LaPlant earned the win with a six-inning complete game. He allowed one unearned run on four hits, walked two and struck out seven.
Alton travels to Avison Post 1239 for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday, then will play in a tournament in Steeleville over Fourth of July weekend. Post 126 is scheduled to play Friday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. against opponents to be determined. Alton then plays at Jerseyville Post 492 on July 6 at 8 p.m., travels to Trenton Post 778 on July 7 for a 5:30 p.m. game against the Gators, and closes the regular season with a home doubleheader against Glen Carbon Post 435 on July 8 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
