Humid Thursday Brings Storm Risk, Flooding Downpours Possible

Thursday’s muggy weather could turn stormy by afternoon, with a high near 89 and a chance of flooding downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts.

Thursday starts mostly cloudy and muggy, with temperatures in the low 70s and light ESE wind around 2 mph. It already feels like the upper 70s early, so the day gets a sticky start.

By afternoon, expect a mix of clouds and sun as the temperature climbs to a high near 89. South-southwest wind stays light at about 8 mph, with gusts up to 16 mph. A heavy thunderstorm could develop later in the day, and rain chances rise to 56 percent. If storms form, they may bring flooding downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts. It could feel as hot as 99 during the hottest part of the afternoon.

During the evening, showers and thunderstorms become more likely as clouds increase again. Some storms could still turn heavy, and the wet pattern continues into the night.

Overnight, temperatures settle near the low of 72 under mostly cloudy skies. Rain chances jump to 96 percent, with a few rounds of showers and thunderstorms possible before daybreak.

The allergy index is low today. Main allergens include mold, grass, ragweed and tree pollen, all at low levels.

Friday brings a high near 83 and a low around 70, with a humid day featuring more showers and thunderstorms and only limited breaks of sun.
