BJ's Printables Male Athlete Of The Month For Knights: Metro-East Lutheran Graduate Heads To Air Force Academy

EDWARDSVILLE — Metro-East Lutheran High School graduate Lucas Lorenz has received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, marking his next step after a high school career that included varsity basketball, volleyball and golf.

Lorenz was a multi-sport athlete during high school. He played varsity basketball, served as an outside hitter and captain on the varsity volleyball team, and also competed in varsity golf.

Lorenz is a BJ's Printables Male Athlete of the Month for Metro East Lutheran High School.

Anthony Smith, the Metro-East Lutheran head boys basketball coach, said Lorenz was valued for his persistence, leadership and defensive play.

“Lucas is one of those guys who, if you are flat, goes out and stays with you until you get a change,” Smith said.

Smith described Lorenz as “a blue-collar player” who provided solid leadership for the basketball squad. He also praised Lorenz’s defensive efforts on the court.

Coach Smith said he is proud Lorenz is joining the Air Force Academy and believes he will be successful there.
