Old Bakery Beer Company's Summer Events & Live Music | Our Daily Show Interview
ALTON - The Old Bakery Beer Company will host several upcoming events to bring people together and celebrate the community.
On Thursday, July 16, 2026, OBB will host their annual Bark Market for dog lovers and their pets. A percentage of proceeds will go to Hope Animal Rescues. The restaurant will also sponsor a puzzle competition on July 23, followed by Oktoberfest in July on July 25 and the Nerd Market on Aug. 15.
Lauren Pattan, owner of The Old Bakery Beer Company, noted that it’s important to the brewery to engage with community members and host events like these. She is especially looking forward to Thursday’s Bark Market, which starts at 5 p.m. and always draws big crowds.
“This is our third year for the Bark Market,” Pattan said. “The Bark Market may be self-explanatory, but it’s a bunch of local artisans and vendors specifically selling things for dogs and dog lovers, things like locally-made dog treats and bandanas for your dogs and artwork about dogs and toys for your dogs and all of the things that dogs and dog lovers need.”
OBB also hosts a monthly Drink For a Cause night where 25% of beer and Herbarium Tea sales go to a local nonprofit. On Thursday, July 16, Hope Animal Rescues will receive these proceeds, as well as the vendor fees for the Bark Market.
This will be followed by OBB’s inaugural puzzle competition at 6 p.m. on July 23. Teams of up to four people can compete to assemble a 500-piece puzzle. Participation costs $15 per team and The winners receive a $50 gift card, and second-place finishers can enjoy a free round of beers. To register, call 618-463-1470.
“As soon as the timer starts, you whip it out on your table and start puzzling,” Pattan explained. “Whoever finishes the puzzle first wins.”
The fun continues with Oktoberfest in July, complete with German food specials, a steinholding competition, the Oktoberfest beer and more. Starting at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, community members can enjoy the feel of fall by sampling the Oktoberfest beer and enjoying other great Oktoberfest traditions.
The steinholding competition starts at 3 p.m. For $15, you receive a one-liter stein full of beer and will compete to see how long you can hold it in the air. The winners of the women’s and men’s competitions will receive a gift card, a t-shirt, and the chance to participate in the state championship in Peoria later this year.
There will be custom handmade ceramic mugs for sale by artist Andrew Koester as well as classic German foods. Pattan noted that it might seem early to celebrate Oktoberfest, but OBB’s attendees always love the chance to engage with the tradition.
“We do it in July every year because that’s when Oktoberfest season starts in terms of getting the beer out to distribution. So since that’s when we’re going to release the beer, we might as well have a party about it,” she laughed.
OBB rounds out their summer events with the Nerd Market on Aug. 15. Like the Bark Market, this themed vendor fair encourages artisans and crafters to showcase their wares, with an emphasis on “nerdy” hobbies and interests.
“That one has been super popular. The vendors always do super well,” Pattan said. “It’s just an artisan market, but the vendors are focused on all things nerdy. Think fantasy, sci-fi, video games, board games, all those sorts of things. People are selling their own hand-made versions of these things or art related to these things. It’s just a very nerdy good time.”
The Old Bakery Beer Company looks forward to sharing these events with the Riverbend region as summer continues. Pattan also pointed out that their summer menu is incredibly popular, with a variety of cocktails and lighter dishes that always draw a crowd.
She encourages people to visit the official Old Bakery Beer Company website or official Facebook page for updates on their menu and upcoming events.
