BETHALTO - Residents approaching retirement or already retired will have an opportunity Aug. 6, 2026, in Bethalto to hear from local professionals about how retirement income, Social Security, health care, taxes, investments and estate planning work together during a free workshop hosted by Bill Kinkel of Genesis Wealth Management Group.
There is another event in Bethalto at the Bethalto Senior Citizen Center at 100 E. Central Ave., Bethalto, 62010, set for July 28, 2026. The event runs from 1 to 2 p.m. and will look at estate planning essentials, wills, trust and protecting family and estate and incapacity planning.
The Aug. 6 event is themed “Retirement Ready: A Practical Retirement Planning Workshop,” and is scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at the Bethalto Senior Citizen Center. Refreshments begin at 5 p.m. and the presentation starts at 5:30 p.m.
Kinkel, an independent Investment Advisor Representative with Genesis Wealth Management Group, will be joined by estate planning attorney Walter Ozark and Michelle Zimmer of Genesis Financial Group for the educational workshop.
According to event information, the workshop is aimed at people who are approaching retirement, have recently retired or have not yet claimed Social Security. Topics will include retirement income planning, Social Security claiming strategies and timing considerations, Medicare and health care planning, taxes in retirement, managing market volatility and estate planning fundamentals.
“Retirement isn’t one decision. It’s a series of coordinated decisions,” Kinkel said.
“All these pieces in the workshops touch on to one another, tie all the pieces together into retirement income into one nice organized package,” Kinkel said.
Kinkel said the programs are intended for people with questions such as whether they can retire, whether their money will last, when to claim Social Security, what Medicare will cost, how much they can safely spend, what happens if the market drops and whether they may be missing an important part of the planning process.
“You don't have to have every answer before retirement, but understanding how the pieces fit together can help you make better retirement decisions,” Kinkel said. “We hope you'll join us.”
Ozark is expected to provide information on estate planning and how it fits into broader retirement preparation, according to Kinkel.
"This will give people in attendance a good shot of information and tying together all these pieces together for retirement," Kinkel said.
Ozark will discuss estate planning considerations and strategies “to help protect what matters most,” while Zimmer will share information on health care, Medicare and insurance considerations that can affect a retirement plan.
Kinkel also emphasized the local experience of the presenters.
“We are local,” he said. “We have done this since 1999, so 27-28 years.”
