Kribs Paces Squad With Two Hits: Aviston Express Scores Six Runs in Second, Goes On To 9-1 Win Over Alton Senior Legion

STEELEVILLE - Alton Post 126's senior American Legion baseball team was held to three hits, two of them by Abe Kribs, as the Aviston Post 1239 Express scored six runs in the second inning and went on to a 9-1 win over the Legionnaires in the winner's bracket final of the Illinois Fifth Division tournament Saturday afternoon at Steeleville.

The loss relegates Post 126 to the loser's bracket.

The Express took charge early, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second inning, then scored once in the third and twice more in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead before Alton scored a consolation run in the top of the seventh, as Aviston took their 9-1 win to advance to the finals.

Kribs had two of the three hits for Alton, while Ryan Lowis had the other hit on the day. Dagan Cordes started on the mound. He was charged with the loss, going 5.1 innings, giving up four runs, one earned, on five hits, walking four and striking out none, and Carter Watson pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits, walking one and striking out three.
