Shaan Patel Headlines Edwardsville Futures Qualifying Opener

EDWARDSVILLE - Shaan Patel of Frontenac, Mo., defeated Gus Tettamble of St. Louis in the feature match of the day, while Andrew Kotzen, a Pro Wildcard Challenge winner last week, won his first match on the opening day of qualifying for the $30,000 Edwardsville Futures tennis tournament, presented by The EGHM Foundation, Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Edwardsville Tennis Center.

Qualifying will take place early in the week for the main draw of the tournament, which ends on Aug. 2, 2026, with the singles final.

In the contested matches in the first round of qualifying, Nirash Mithran won over Rohan Belday 6-3, 6-1, it was Zachary Foster eliminating Oscar Corwin 6-3, 6-2, Malhar Patel defeated Abhinav Chunduru 6-3, 6-3, Ethan Muza got past Ethan Dench 6-2, 6-2, Jelani Sarr shut out Josiah Lawrence 6-0, 6-0, Kotzen defeated Colton Wells 6-1, 6-2, Eric Crivel won over Matthew Michibata 6-1, 6-2, Luca Lo Nardo won over Joshua Lawrence, Jr. 6-3, 4-6, 10-4, in the feature match, Shaan Patel won over Tettamble 6-2, 7-6 (7-1 in the tiebreak), Simon Caldwell knocked out Jarod Hing 6-0, 6-3, Arman Zamani eliminated Brayden Kopp 6-1, 6-1, Sachin Kolchana won by default over Kyle Taylor, and Jonah Braswell defeated Prathinav Chunduru 6-3, 6-4.

In second round matches that were played on Sunday, Hiroki Sakagawa won over Shou He Kang 6-1, 6-1, Jon Gamble eliminated Nicholas Shirley 6-4, 6-4, and Illja Palavestra won over Kostiantyn Zviahintsev 6-0, 6-1.

Second round qualifying continues on Monday, with Shaan Patel meeting Cooper Woestendick, top-seeded and Futures veteran Oliver Okonkwo playing Mithran, and Malhar Patel taking on Alexander Bernard, all three matches starting at 8:30 a.m., while in the second group, Kotzen meets Manuel Lazaro-Juncadella, Crivel plays against Zac Hamill, and Braswell goes up against Tyler Bowers at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Monday at 6 p.m. starts the second annual One-Point tournament, presented by Mike's Automotive, where pro players and fans will play each other in a one-point match, the winner of the point advancing to the next round. It turned out to be an event that was widely popular last year and was brought back by popular demand.
