Brody Short Shines Again, But Jerseyville Falls To Carrier Mills

Jerseyville Post 483 appeared to seize control late, but a four-run swing in the final frame changed everything in the Illinois junior Legion tournament semifinal.

CAROL STREAM - Brody Short continues to swing a hot bat for Jerseyville Post 483's junior American Legion baseball team, collecting three hits and also striking out five batters while on the mound. But Carrier Mills Post 364 came from behind to score four runs in the top of the seventh to defeat the Panthers 7-5 in a winner's bracket semifinal at the Illinois junior Legion baseball tournament Friday afternoon in Carol Stream.

The loss relegated the Panthers to the losers bracket.

Jerseyville took the lead with a single run in the bottom of the first to go ahead 1-0. Carrier Mills then scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. Post 492 struck back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, and another run in the sixth to take the lead back 5-3, with Post 364 hitting the Panthers with their four-run top of the seventh to take the win 7-5, and advance to the winner's bracket final, putting Jerseyville on the brink of elimination.

Short led the Panthers with three hits and an RBI, while both Issac Hackethal and Hudson Schannot each had two hits and an RBI, and Jagger Young also collected a hit. Short started on the mound and pitched well, but was tagged with the loss, going 5.2 innings, giving up seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits, walking four and striking out five, with Caden Crimmins coming on in the sixth to get the final out, allowing no runs or hits, walking none and fanning the only batter he faced.
