Matt Baumgartner Named Assistant Principal at Liberty Middle School

EDWARDSVILLE - Matt Baumgartner has been named assistant principal at Liberty Middle School. The Edwardsville Community Unit School District 7 Board of Education approved his appointment during its meeting on Monday, July 27.

Baumgartner comes to District 7 from Highland Middle School where he spent the last seven years as an assistant principal. During his tenure, he provided leadership in student discipline, school safety, staff evaluation, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and initiatives designed to foster a positive school culture.

“I am excited to join the District 7 team and become part of the Liberty Middle School community,” said Baumgartner. “I look forward to building strong relationships with our students, staff, and families as we work together to support student success. Middle school is a pivotal time in a student’s life, and I am honored to help empower our students as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally.”

Before entering school administration, Baumgartner taught mathematics at Alton High School for nine years. He also served as a substitute principal, led professional learning communities, developed curriculum, and presented professional development for staff.

Baumgartner earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics with a minor in secondary education and a master's degree in educational administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He also holds an associate degree in mathematics from Southwestern Illinois College and an Illinois principal endorsement.
