Ameren Illinois Restores Godfrey Customers After Overnight Planned Blackout

GODFREY - Ameren Illinois said Thursday, July 30, 2026, that no second planned power outage is scheduled in Godfrey, after reports that some customers believed another outage was coming.

Brian Bretsch, an Ameren Illinois spokesperson, said the only planned outage occurred Wednesday night, July 29, 2026, and that all affected customers were restored early Thursday morning, July 30, 2026.

The outage was scheduled from 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026, until about 5 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2026, according to information village officials said they received from Ameren Illinois. The affected area included residents along West Delmar and several subdivisions along that route.

Affected areas extended into part of the D’Adrian subdivision, Summerfield subdivision, Arrow Wood subdivision and River Aire Subdivision, and then west of Clifton Terrace and south to neighborhoods along River Road, the village said.

According to Ameren Illinois, the outage was necessary to support an Illinois Department of Transportation roundabout project that required the utility to relocate two power poles. Bretsch said the company was working under a tight deadline and completed the work ahead of schedule.

Ameren Illinois said it chose Wednesday night for the outage because it was “the coolest evening to date,” which Bretsch said helped minimize impacts on customers and crews.

Because of the proximity of the poles being relocated, about 1,600 customers were included in the planned outage, the company said. During the work, a piece of equipment malfunctioned and tripped two breakers, causing an unexpected outage that temporarily affected about 6,000 customers.

Bretsch said that outage was brief and that service was restored quickly. He said the original group of 1,600 customers affected by the planned outage had their power restored early Thursday morning.

“We have heard reports that some customers believe a second planned outage is scheduled in Godfrey. That is not the case,” Bretsch said. “There is no second planned outage scheduled for the area.”
