Opinion: Lashod O. Robinson Announces His Candidacy For Alton Mayor Post In Next Election

ALTON - I, Lashod O. Robinson, announce to you, the citizens of Alton, that I will be filing to become Mayor of the City of Alton for the April 2029 election.

What the city and its government have shown with their efforts to stall city development has been deeply concerning to me, and I know for certain it is something that my neighbors are worried about. Our city and its resources need immediate, grave attention to their problems — not grandstanding. We see enough of that on the federal level; we shouldn't let it be a part of our municipal government, too.

Our elected representatives, candidates, and voters like you and me have a chance at making history by improving the future of Alton. My platform is built on reducing crime, creating safer streets, remedying rough sleeping in the city, Housing Development and research, investing in our youth, supporting our communities and their citizens, expanding capital development, and restoring our infrastructure.

For far too long, the city I call home has been sitting on a goldmine of resources that historic Alton should be benefiting from. There is immense room for positive change, and I want you all to know that I am here to offer real, actionable solutions. We should not live in a city where we see young lives taken due to gun violence, where we feel our police force works against the community, not with it, or where mothers are forced to face the heartbreaking reality of burying their children. This community does not deserve to endure such pain, nor should our citizens ever feel like there isn't a better option.

To me, our community means far more than any political party or partisan line ever could. My sole focus is the people of Alton. Because real progress requires unity, I welcome, encourage, and humbly ask that all community leaders—regardless of background or affiliation—meet with me so we can share our thoughts, exchange ideas, and work hand-in-hand to make our city better for everyone.

Under my administration, there will be proper accountability. I will be, as your mayor, an effective, hands-on leader fully dedicated to serving you every single day. I ask you not to judge me by my age, but by the strength of my policies, the integrity of my character, and the values I intend to carry throughout this entire journey.
