A 42-year-old Caseyville Resident Dies After Shooting

Homicide detectives are piecing together what led to gunfire at a home where a man was killed and another man was injured.

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Metropolitan Police homicide detectives are investigating a shooting in the Tower Grove South neighborhood that left a Caseyville man dead and another injured Thursday afternoon, July 30, 2026, authorities said.

Shortly after 3:45 p.m. July 30, District 2 officers responded to a shooting call in the 3700 block of Juniata, where they found a 54-year-old man identified as the suspect on a porch with a gunshot wound, according to police. Officers then found a 42-year-old man inside the residence, also suffering from a gunshot wound.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police said a preliminary investigation found that the two men had argued at the location before shots were fired between them, police said. Officers recovered two firearms from the scene.

EMS transported both men to a hospital. The 42-year-old man, identified as Alvaro Perez Vargas of Caseyville, Illinois, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The suspect was treated and released to police custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
