Bethalto Reduces Liquor Licenses After Cafe Closure

A brief Monday meeting brought updates from village departments, including fire and police call totals, infrastructure issues and two board actions affecting local business and land use.

BETHALTO — The Bethalto Board met Monday night in Bethalto for a brief meeting with little on the agenda, hearing monthly reports from department heads and voting on liquor license and zoning changes.

Bethalto Fire Chief Jay Grant told board members the fire department responded to 146 calls last month. He also said the new Starcom radio system should be done Sept. 14.

Bethalto Police Chief Ryan Dugger reported that the police department had 651 calls last month. He also reminded everyone that the school year starts Wednesday.

Public Works Director Rod Cheatham said the village had five main breaks last month.

The board voted to reduce the number of liquor licenses from six to five because Rosewood Cafe closed. Board members also voted to change 840 North Prairie to agriculture. There was no opposition from neighbors.
