Firefighters Contain Delta Queen Lane Fire Without Injuries

Firefighters found flames in the kitchen of a vacant home for sale, with damage extending through the floor and into the second story.

GODFREY — The Alton Fire Department responded Friday afternoon, Aug. 14, 2026, to a structure fire in the 4400 block of Delta Queen Lane in Godfrey.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire that started in the kitchen area of a house that was for sale. The fire had burned through the floor and extended into the second floor.

It appeared no one was inside the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters had to stretch a significant amount of hose to establish a water connection because the nearest hydrant was located at the opposite end of the street from the house.

Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

The Alton Fire Department requested that the Illinois State Fire Marshal investigate the cause of the fire.
