Coach Rick Reinhart Era Opens For Alton At Belleville West
The Redbirds will start the 2026 season on the road as their Hall of Fame head coach leads Alton High into a new chapter.
ALTON — Alton High’s Redbirds will open on the road at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at Belleville West, with new head coach Rick Reinhart leading the squad in his first game with the program.
Reinhart, a well-known area coaching figure, is a member of the Illinois Football Coaches Hall of Fame.

He is the 48th coach in Illinois history to post 200 wins and has a 213-202 record as a head coach across 42 seasons.
Reinhart’s teams have made 10 playoff appearances with him serving as a head coach and assistant coach. His team at Tuscola won a state championship, and he also coached at Fairfield, Civic Memorial, Marquette Catholic and Collinsville.
Reinhart said coaching helps keep him young, and he said he has had strong support in the Alton program from the administration, the youth, the parents and the community.
“I am a bit of a vagabond, but I am happy here. The experience has been fun so far,” he said of his Redbirds’ experience. “We have an excellent coaching staff and have received the support we needed.”
