ALTON - Alton's football team looked sharp in a scrimmage/practice a week ago Friday night, Aug. 14, 2026, at Public School Stadium under new head coach Rick Reinhart.
Alton is hoping to put together multiple wins this season with a revision of the Southwestern Conference. Alton will play in the Black Division of the SWC with Granite City, Collinsville, Triad and Mascoutah. The Gold Division of the SWC includes Edwardsville, O'Fallon, East St. Louis, Belleville East and Belleville West.
Coach Reinhart said he feels he has a good group overall and a great group of seniors entering the 2026 season.
Quarterback Cayden Robinson, a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, has an abundance of skills, Coach Reinhart said, and has locked into his offensive scheme. He believes Robinson will lead the team and he appears primed and ready for a strong season after a summer where he learned a lot in the position.
Josiah Stewart is a three-year starter and has speed as does Prince Harrion. Both Stewart and Harrion are seniors.
The Redbirds receiving crew, offensive and defensive line and defenders in general should be talented, Coach Reinhart said.
"Belleville West is a big, physical team, and they will come out and run right over you defensively if you aren't careful," he said. "It should be a very physical game."
