MONDAY, AUGUST 24 PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS ROUNDUP

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

17TH ANNUAL MIDWEST MEMBERS CREDIT UNION ROXANA INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

In Group A of the Roxana Invitational Tournament on Monday evening, Greenfield Northwestern defeated Jersey 25-15, 25-21, Staunton won over Cahokia 25-9, 25-10, the Tigers swept the Comanches 25-2. 25-14.

The Bulldogs won over the Panthers 25-17, 25-17, Jersey won over Cahokia 25-15, 25-15, and Greenfield-Northwestern and Staunton split, the Bulldogs winning the first set 25-21, and the Tigers taking the second set 27-26.

In the Group B matches, Hardin Calhoun swept Granite City 25-20, 25-17, Father McGivney Catholic won over East Alton-Wood River 25-7, 25-10, the Griffins topped Calhoun 25-23, 26-24, Granite toppled the Oilers 25-17, 25-16, Calhoun won over EAWR 25-12, 25-18, and McGivney won over Granite 25-15, 25-18.

Groups C and D play their matches Tuesday evening, with the semifinals and finals in all four brackets taking place on Saturday.

REGULAR SEASON

In regular season openers played on Monday, Red Bud upended Waterloo Gibault Catholic 25-9. 25-12, and Nashville swept Belleville Althoff Catholic 25-18, 25-14.

BOYS SOCCER

TRIAD 7, LITCHFIELD 1: Carter Eade had a brace (two goals), while Trey Barger, Parker Benson, Joey Bohnek, Jacob Buchtel, and Bryce Merkel also scored as Triad opened its season with six unanswered goals in the second half to win over Litchfield at Knights Field.

The Knights open their season at 1-0-0, while the Purple Panthers are 0-1-0.

In other season openers on Monday, Waterloo won at Carbondale 2-0, Columbia defeated Marion 8-1, Piasa Southwestern took a 7-0 win at East Alton-Wood River, and Waterloo Gibault Catholic blew out Valmeyer 8-1.
