Followell Scores Only Touchdown In Third Quarter As Jackson Takes 55-7 Win Over Edwardsville

Jackson built control before halftime and then delivered a decisive third-quarter burst. Edwardsville struggled to keep pace despite efficient passing from Dean Williams.

JACKSON, Mo. — Jackson built a 17-0 halftime lead and pulled away with a third-quarter surge Friday at Jackson’s fabled Pit, defeating Edwardsville 55-7 in a Week 2 game that left the Tigers with their second straight seven-point outing.

Edwardsville quarterback Dean Williams had an excellent completion rate and finished 14-of-17 passing for 97 yards and ran for 44 yards to lead the Tigers’ offense.

Edwardsville also lost 28-7 to Kankakee in its Week 1 game last Friday, Aug. 28, 2026.

Jackson took the lead in the second quarter on a 34-yard field goal, then added a 3-yard touchdown run by Jaylon Hampton. Memphis Mattox scored on a 19-yard run right before halftime to give the Indians a 17-0 lead at the break.

The Indians broke the game open in the third quarter. Dantwon Johnson caught touchdown passes of 55 and 42 yards to extend Jackson’s lead to 30-0.

Caleb Followell answered for Edwardsville on the Tigers’ next possession, scoring from 3 yards out for his second touchdown of the season to cut the deficit to 30-7 in the third quarter.

Jackson responded immediately when Blayne Reagan returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown, making it 36-7. Hampton later added a 4-yard touchdown run, and Jackson scored two more touchdowns to close out the 55-7 win.

Jackson opened its season 1-0 and plays at Louisville Ballard next week. Edwardsville fell to 0-2 and hosts Chicago Morgan Park next Friday. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. local time.
