Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Batchtown Man After Domestic Disturbance Investigation
Authorities said Billy B. Leavell, 53, was arrested after officers executed search warrants in Hardin and Batchtown and later filed charges including aggravated assault, firearm possession without a FOID card, and possession of a controlled substance.
HARDIN/BATCHTOWN - A Batchtown man was arrested after the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office investigated a reported domestic disturbance alleged to have occurred June 10, 2026, at a residence in Batchtown, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office said it received the report June 11. Corporal Nicholas McCall spoke with victims and witnesses, conducted an investigation and applied for a court-authorized search warrant, which was granted by the Honorable Charles HW Burch.
On June 15, law enforcement officials from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois Conservation Police served and executed search warrants at two locations: a residence in Hardin and a residence in Batchtown, both in Calhoun County.
During the searches, authorities said they recovered firearms, ammunition and suspected drug paraphernalia. The suspected drug paraphernalia was submitted to the Illinois State Police Forensic Lab for analysis.
Billy B. Leavell, 53, of Batchtown, was arrested at the scene without incident and transported to the Jersey County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.
On June 16, Leavell was transported to the Calhoun County Courthouse, where the Calhoun County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a complaint alleging aggravated assault — use of a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm without F.O.I.D.
Pursuant to the Illinois SAFE-T Act, Leavell was granted pretrial release subject to GPS monitoring pending trial, authorities said.
On Aug. 11, the Calhoun County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a felony complaint alleging possession of a controlled substance.
The sheriff’s office thanked the Illinois State Police for assistance with lab testing and the Illinois Conservation Police for assistance executing the search warrant.
