Calhoun Rallies Past Pittsfield In Dramatic Volleyball Regular-Season Opener
Franci Hurley, Gabby Hurley and Lilly Pelletier played key late roles as Calhoun erased another deficit in the deciding set, Carrollton also tops Jersey for fifth win.
HARDIN - Calhoun opened its regular season Tuesday on the road with a three-set volleyball victory over Pittsfield, rallying from late deficits to win 17-25, 28-26, 26-24 in Pittsfield.
The Warriors struggled early against Pittsfield’s fast, hard-hitting offense and dropped the first set 25-17. Calhoun responded in the second set, building a 21-15 lead before Pittsfield used a serving run to take a 22-21 advantage. The teams traded points before Calhoun pulled out a 28-26 win.

Pittsfield again threatened in the third set, taking a 16-8 lead. Annie Wilson, cleared to play back row only as she returns from an ACL injury suffered at the end of last season, had a service run that cut the deficit to 16-14.
Calhoun later trailed 24-21 before a kill by freshman Franci Hurley brought Gabby Hurley to the service line. Lilly Pelletier rotated in and helped Calhoun at the net as the Warriors completed the comeback for a 26-24 win.
Wilson led Calhoun in serving with 11 points and one ace. Gabby Hurley added eight service points.
Riley Pohlman led the Warriors with 11 kills, followed by Pelletier with eight and Camryn Klaas with seven. Pelletier had three blocks, including one solo and two assisted.
Klaas had 15 digs. Wilson, Pohlman and Lucy Huley each had eight digs, and Gabby Hurley had seven.
Calhoun’s junior varsity team also won its opener, defeating Pittsfield 25-14, 25-19.
Calhoun, 5-1 overall, will play at 7 p.m. on Thursday at home against Father McGivney Catholic.
Carrollton Takes Win Over Volleyball Rival Jersey
In other volleyball action, Carrollton improved to 5-1 with a 25-15, 25-22 win over Jersey.
The Hawks return to action Sept. 3 against Pittsfield. Jersey, which fell to 2-4, will face Waterloo in its next match.
