Jerseyville Man Sentenced After Pleading Guilty To Park Stabbing
20-year-old subject of Jerseyville stabbing case banned from city-wide parks for two years; felony battery charge reduced to misdemeanor, two other counts dismissed.
JERSEYVILLE – A Jerseyville resident who pleaded guilty to stabbing a 17-year-old in Wittman Park will avoid further jail time after pleading guilty to a heavily amended battery charge.
Trent J. Devore, 20, with no listed address, was sentenced on Aug. 17, 2026 to 24 months of conditional discharge after pleading guilty to a Class A misdemeanor count of battery.

The charge was originally classified as a Class 3 felony count of aggravated battery in a public place before being reduced to a misdemeanor. Two other Class 3 felony charges against him, including one count each of aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon in a public place, were dismissed per his guilty plea.
During the two-year conditional discharge period, Devore has been ordered to have no contact with the victim from this case or any Jerseyville city parks. He has also been ordered to pay a $300 fine no later than July 31, 2028.
The charges against Devore stem from an incident on April 21, 2026, when he knowingly stabbed a 17-year-old victim in the right thigh with a knife while at Wittman Park in Jerseyville.
The Jerseyville Police Department announced the following day that video surveillance from the City of Jerseyville was used to identify Devore as the suspect. He was taken into custody without incident on April 21 before being released from custody on April 27.
