EDWARDSVILLE 25-25, COLLINSVILLE 15-22: Edwardsville's girls volleyball team fought off a spirited second set by Collinsville to take the sweep in their Southwestern Conference and season opener at Vergil Fletcher Gym.
Madelyn Ohlau served up 11 points and four aces for the Tigers, to go along with nine kills, while Ari Fusano had a block, and Lucy Malawy had 11 assists.
Edwardsville opens the season 1-0, while the Kahoks are now 0-2.
FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 25-18-25. GREENVILLE 18-25-23: McGivney went on the road and held off a third-set challenge by Greenville after splitting the first two sets against the Comets
Elli Williams had 11 points and two aces for the Griffins, while Kennedy Kreke had 11 kills, Elli Moody had three blocks, and Violet Nesbit had eight assists.
The Griffins are now 5-2, while the Comets open their season at 0-1.

In other matches played on Tuesday, Mascoutah made history by winning its first-ever Southwestern Conference match at O'Fallon 25-14, 12-25, 25-20, Breese Central won over Nashville 25-18, 25-20, Triad also won its first-ever Southwestern Conference matching, winning at home over Granite City 25-10, 25-14, Red Bud won at Pinckneyville 28-26, 25-20, Carlinville took a three-set win at Highland 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, Waterloo Gibault Catholic won at Metro-East Lutheran 25-16, 25-22, and Staunton held off Civic Memorial in a thriller 32-30, 24-26, 25-18.
BOYS SOCCER
TRIAD 3, BELLEVILLE EAST 1: Parker Benson had a brace (two goals), and Colby Wheat also scored as Triad won its first-ever Southwestern Conference match over Belleville East at Charlie Woodford Field.
Damien Jordan had one save in goal for the Knights, who are now 3-0-0, while the Lancers go to 1-1-0.

In other games, Granite City officially returned to the Southwestern Conference with a 4-1 win at Collinsville to win the Paz Cup for the first time, O'Fallon got by Belleville West 3-1, Mascoutah shut out Alton 5-0, Carlinville defeated Roxana 7-1, Columbia shut out Civic Memorial 5-0, Highland topped Springfield Lutheran 6-0, and Breese Mater Dei Catholic won over Greenville 7-0.
