Sex Offender Charged With Registration Failure After Moving To Jerseyville Motel
Homeless sex offender allegedly lived in Super 8 Motel for weeks without notifying local authorities.
JERSEYVILLE – A sex offender accused of failing to notify police after moving into a motel in Jerseyville faces a felony in Jersey County.
Joey M. Seidelman, 27, listed as homeless out of Lincoln, Ill., was charged on Aug. 25, 2026 with a Class 3 felony count of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender.

On Aug. 21, 2026, Seidelman allegedly knowingly failed to register as a sex offender with the Jersey County Sheriff’s Office within three days after establishing a residence in Jersey County.
Seidelman was cited and released with a notice to appear at the Jersey County Courthouse on Sept. 22, 2026.
The probable cause statement from the cite/release order states Seidelman moved to the Super 8 Motel in Jerseyville and failed to register as a sex offender.
Under state law, homeless sex offenders are required to register on a weekly basis with the local law enforcement agency of their current location. Seidelman had been living in Jerseyville for at least two weeks without notifying local law enforcement agencies, according to the probable cause statement.
The Illinois State Police Sex Offender registry currently lists Seidelman as “compliant” after registering on Sept. 1, 2026. He had previously been convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 13-year-old victim in Kendall County; Seidelman was 19 at the time of the offense.
The Jersey County Sheriff’s Office presented the latest case against Seidelman to prosecutors.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
