
VIRDEN — The Southwestern Piasa Birds boys football team shut out North Mac 41-0 on Thursday night, Sept. 3, 2026, at North Mac, continuing a strong start behind a balanced offensive effort and a defense that kept North Mac off the scoreboard.
Southwestern led 7-0 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 21-0 by halftime. The Piasa Birds led 34-0 at the end of the third quarter before adding one more touchdown and an extra-point kick to complete the scoring.
Carter Watson completed 6 of 15 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown. Jerion Holoman rushed for 141 yards on nine carries and scored two touchdowns. Reed Campbell had six catches for 49 yards and a touchdown. Watson also carried the ball four times for 12 yards and a score. Gage Campbell had nine carries for 34 yards and a score. Connor Wood carried four times for 24 yards and a touchdown.
Southwestern hosts Vandalia at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, and travels for a game against Litchfield-Vandalia on Sept. 18, 2026.
Pat Keith, Southwestern's head coach since 2018, said he sees great things ahead for his squad in the 2026 season.
"The season has been good so far, and we are improving each week and getting better on both sides of the ball," he added.
