The Warriors turned in another valiant effort against the Griffins, their coach Melissa Zipprich said.

“We got another shot tonight against Father McGivney, the team that handed us our first and only loss of the season,” coach Zipprich said. “Unfortunately, we came up short in another hard-fought battle.”

Calhoun started quickly, taking the first set 25-18. Father McGivney answered in a tight second set, winning 28-26 after extra points, then closed the match with a 25-17 victory in the third set.

“We came out strong and dominated the first set,” Zipprich said. “The second set was a back-and-forth battle. After battling through extra points, we came up short.”

Coach Zipprich said the match shifted after the second set.

“The momentum shifted after losing the second set, and we ran out of steam in the third set,” she said. “Although we really wanted to get our revenge on Father McGivney, the season is just beginning. We are just getting started.”

Calhoun’s reported statistics included Camryn Klaas with four aces and Riley Pohlman with three. Klaas and Peyton Baalman each had six serve receives. Lilly Pelletier had three blocks and 11 kills, according to Calhoun's stats.

Calhoun, 5-2, now plays Greenfield-Northwestern, 5-1-1, in a key match set for 7 p.m. on Sept. 8 at Greenfield.
