Wallace Throws For Five Touchdowns, Sauerwein Takes Interception For Another Touchdown, Tigers Win Over Hillsboro 49-6
The Tigers treated the home crowd to a complete performance at Tiger Stadium, overwhelming Hillsboro early and adding more scores after halftime.
EDWARDSVILLE - Quarterback Ella Wallace threw for five touchdowns, Sophie Antonini ran for another score, and Ava Sauerwein took an interception back 25 yards for another touchdown as the Edwardsville girls flag football team remained undefeated with a 49-6 win over Hillsboro in a Labor Day special Monday night, Sept. 7, 2026, at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers are now 5-0 for the season, defeating the first-year Hilltoppers, and have now outscored their opposition in the first five games 154-51.

Serena Shapiro got things started for the Tigers with a nine-yard touchdown catch in the opening quarter to make it 7-0 after Kennedy Gieseking caught the conversion pass. Antonini made it 14-0 with a one-yard run into the end zone, with Stella Worman catching the conversion pass to extend the lead. Freshman Jada Donaldson ran in from one yard out, with Gieseking hauling in a two-point pass to extend the lead to 22-0 in the first.
Later in the half, Hunter Gibbs caught a three-yard pass for another touchdown, but the conversion missed, making the score 28-0. Sauerwein then picked off a Hillsboro pass and took it in from 25 yards away, with Vickie White catching the conversion pass to give Edwardsville a 35-0 lead.
In the second half, Sophia Bantle had an eight-yard touchdown reception, with Corrine Morris taking the conversion pass, and Tatum Brown ran in from 20 yards out, with Zinnia Allen scoring the conversion to make the final 49-6.
Jahzara Akkour had two sacks in the game, while Olivia Wolz also had a sack, Shapiro took a punt back 41 yards, Sauerwein had two interceptions on the day, including the one for the touchdown; and Bantle, Gieseking, and Ari Williams also had interceptions to stop Hilltopper drives.
Hillsboro is now 0-4 on the season, while the Tigers go to 5-0, and play Rockford Jefferson Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Belleville West's Bob Goalby Field, then play at Alton next Monday at 4:30 p.m., then have back-to-back home games on Sept. 16-17 against East St. Louis and West, respectively, with both games starting at 7 p.m.
