The 30th Annual Fly-In Brings Airplanes and Fun to St. Louis Regional Airport

The 30th Annual Fly-In is planned rain or shine at St. Louis Regional Airport in Bethalto.

BETHALTO/EAST ALTON - The 30th Annual Fly-In will take place on the weekend of September 26th & 27th. The two-day Fly-In is a family-friendly festival of airplanes, wheels, food, and fun hosted at the St. Louis Regional Airport. The event is full of activities, including tours of numerous types of aircraft, offering a “behind the fence” experience on the airport tarmac. For car enthusiasts, the Speed Demons Car Club will host the car show, plus plan to visit the family-friendly Kids Zone sponsored by the Bethalto Chamber of Commerce. The Bethalto Farmers Market/Artisans Show and local Food Trucks/Vendors sponsored by the Bethalto Spirit round out the weekend. There is no admission for spectators to any of the venues or parking at the Fly-In.

Saturday, September 26th from 9 am – 2 pm is the main day of the Fly-In that has something for all! Up-close viewing of scheduled aircraft includes AeroCareers “New Spirit of St. Louis” Lancair Columbia 300 flown by Erik Lindbergh, a Boeing PT-17 Stearman, Arch Medical Helicopter, Missouri Commemorative Air Force’s B-25, as well as a variety of single- and multi-engine general aviation aircraft. Information booths include West Star Aviation, EAA Chapter 864 Aviation Education, Illinois State Police, Illinois National Guard, Women in Aviation, and the Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) Aviation Program. The Bunker Hill Speed Demons Car Club will share their love of “cool cars” and host the annual car show. Offering awards for 24 different car show classes, all types of classic cars are welcome to register ($20 per show car) the morning of the car show, with prize winners announced at 2:30 pm. The Bethalto Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Kids Zone complete with Bounce Houses provided by Bounce Happy Houses, a Kids Activity/Craft tent, and Barrel Car Rides provided by the Bethalto Spirit group. Everything in the Kids Zone is free for our young attendees, but adult supervision is required.

Sunday, September 27th, from 9 am - 2 pm, the fun continues with the family-friendly activities, including EAA Chapter 864 sharing the thrill of flying through the EAA Young Eagles program. Founded in 1992, the Young Eagles program provides youth ages 8–17 an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. the EAA pilots and West Star Aviation, these flights are provided free of charge for participants; however, pre-registration is required, and space is limited to 150 Young Eagles passengers. Pre-registration opens September 1st and can be made at EAA Chapter 864 under EAACHAPTERS.ORG until space is filled. Due to the continued popularity of the Young Eagles Flights program, walk-up registration is no longer possible. While waiting for your Young Eagles flight, families can visit the Bethalto Spirit Farmers Market & Artisans Show. Market vendors will include arts and crafts, produce, seasonal fall flowers and pumpkins, jewelry, and much more from over 25 participating vendors. The Kids Zone and Piston Aviation Discovery Flights will also be open on Sunday, with food and drinks available for purchase from local food trucks and vendors.
