FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 1, BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 0: Brendan Kayser's first-half strike was the only goal of the match as McGivney dealt Althoff its first-ever Gateway Metro Conference loss at George Martz Field.

Patrick Gierer made nine saves for the Griffins, while Drew Distler had five saves for the Crusaders.

McGivney is now 2-2-0, while Althoff slides to 5-2-0.

TRIAD 2, O'FALLON 1: Parker Benson's brace (two goals) was enough to give Triad the three points over O'Fallon at Knights Field.

Damien Jordan had three saves in goal for the Knights, who go to 5-0-0, while the Panthers are now 2-1-0.

CIVIC MEMORIAL 1, BREESE CENTRAL 0: A first-half goal by Quentin Daniels was all that CM needed in their win at Central.

MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 10, METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 0: Parker Belchik had a first-half hat trick, while Kaiman Kelly, Gus Koeller, Ryan Lopez, Myles Ortmann, William Waters, and Brock Woodward all scored in the first half in Marquette's win over Metro-East at Gordon Moore Park.

Chase Kopp only had to make one save in goal for the Explorers, who are now 7-0-0, while the Knights go to 0-2-0,

In other fixtures played on Tuesday, Edwardsville won over Alton at home 6-0, Breese Mater Dei Catholic nipped Trenton Wesclin 1-0, Highland got past Carbondale 4-2, Waterloo wiped out Centralia 9-0, Mascoutah won over Belleville West 4-2, and Columbia took a 4-3 win over Freeburg.

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL

Mariah Taylor made history for Alton's flag football team by romping home on a 20-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the first-ever score in the program's history, but in the Redbirds' home debut at Piasa Motor Fuels Field, Belleville West held off Alton 18-6.

GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY

EDWARDSVILLE 2, PARKWAY SOUTH 1 (4OT): Addie Arteberry had both goals, including the winner in the fourth overtime, as Edwardsville won at Parkway South in west St. Louis County.

Amelia Kennedy had three saves in goal as she and Lydia Blind shared the first win of the season for the Tigers.

Edwardsville is now 1-6, while the Patriots go to 2-4.

GIRLS TENNIS

In a Southwestern Conference meet on Tuesday, Belleville West swept Granite City 9-0.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

TRIAD 25-25, COLLINSVILLE 19-14: Triad played well in taking a Southwestern Conference sweep over Collinsville at Vergil Fletcher Gym.

Heidi Boehring had a very good match for the Knights, serving up seven points and two aces to go along with 22 assists, with Hayden Neu contributing eight kills and a block, while Allison Adomite had five kills and three blocks.

Triad is now 5-4, while the Kahoks go to 2-3.

In other matches played on Tuesday, Mascoutah swept Belleville East 25-16, 25-21, Belleville West won at East St. Louis 25-12, 25-13, Granite City came back to win at Alton 17-25,25-22, 25-10, Marissa-Coulterville did the same to stop Dupo 22-25, 25-19, 25-11, Waterloo won over Centralia 25-20, 25-21, Columbia held off Freeburg 26-24, 22-25, 25-12, and Piasa Southwestern won over East Alton-Wood River 25-19-22-25, 27-25.

In a very limited schedule played on Labor Day on Monday, Granite City won over Lebanon 3-1, Trenton Wesclin shut out East Alton-Wood River 8-0, and Belleville Althoff Catholic bounced back from their first loss of the season to shut out Waterloo 3-0.

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL

In the only game played on Monday night, Edwardsville went to 6-0 by defeating Hillsboro 49-6. The Tigers conceded their first points of the season, but otherwise had little trouble in defeating the first-year program of the Hilltoppers, who are now 0-4.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 25-25, ROXANA 15-15: McGivney played well in taking a sweep over Roxana at home.

Elli Williams served up 16 points for the Griffins, while having four aces and eight assists, while Elli Moody had five kills and four blocks, Kennedy Kreke, Sondra Noll and Williams all had three blocks each, and Harper Dettmers added seven assists.

McGivney is now 7-2, while the Shells go to 2-4.

In the only other match played on Labor Day, Highland came from behind to topple Hillsboro 20-25, 25-23, 28-26.

In a result from Thursday, Sept. 3, O'Fallon came from behind to win at home over Edwardsville 3-2.

On Friday, at a tournament in Morton, Rockford Jefferson won over Edwardsville 2-1. In other results, Waterloo Gibault Catholic and Lebanon played to a 2-2 draw, and Belleville Althoff Catholic took a 3-0 win over Orchard Farm, Mo.

In results from Saturday, West Aurora defeated Edwardsville in Morton 3-2, Chatham Glenwood shut out Althoff 3-0, Jacksonville defeated Jersey 2-0, Staunton bumped off Trenton Wesclin 3-1, Marquette Catholic shut out Freeburg 4-0, and Breese Mater Dei Catholic nipped Highland 1-0.

FOOTBALL

In a pair of results from Saturday, LaSalle-Peru won over Alton 35-7, while Mt. Vernon took a 45-34 win over visiting Collinsville.

In results involving area teams at the Edwardsville Tiger Classic tournament on Saturday, Rockwood Lafayette won over Breese Central 25-12, 25-20, Mascoutah won over Normal Community 25-21, 25-14, Columbia took a three-set win over Edwardsville 27-25, 24-26, 15-10, it was Morton sweeping O'Fallon 25-19, 25-16, Freeburg won twice, getting past Decatur Eisenhower 25-3, 25-4, then winning over Rock Island 25-20, 25-18, Morton took a three-set decision over Mascoutah 25-18, 19-26, 15-13, Central swept Edwardsville 25-19, 25-17, Lafayette took care of Columbia 25-21, 25-14, O'Fallon won a tight three-setter over the Tigers 27-25, 17-25, 16-14, Mascoutah won over Columbia 25-19, 25-21, Normal Community won the third place match over Breese Central 25-14, 25-19, and in the final Freeburg swept Washington 25-20, 25-21.

In a tournament in Jackson, Mo. Red Bud lost to Northpoint Christian of Southhaven, Miss. 25-7, 25-20, lost to Oakville of south St. Louis County 29-31, 25-18, 15-12, fell to the host Indians 25-19, 18-25, 15-6, but salvaged a win, defeating Newburn, Tenn. Dyer County 25-22, 25-21.
