Lincoln Middle School Students Gather to Remember September 11
Lincoln Middle School’s annual Patriot Day ceremony brought students, staff, band and choir members together Friday morning to reflect on September 11, 2001, and its lasting significance.
EDWARDSVILLE — Lincoln Middle School students gathered around the school’s flagpole Friday morning to remember and reflect on the events of September 11, 2001, during the school’s annual Patriot Day observance.
The event was organized by Lincoln 8th grade social studies teachers John Ginestra and Tom Newell as an opportunity for students to learn about and honor the significance of September 11.

The ceremony brought together students, staff, Lincoln band and choir members, school administrators and members of the Edwardsville Police and Fire departments.
The observance began with a drum march by Lincoln band members, followed by a welcome from Principal Michael Cory. Students then participated in a flag-lowering ceremony, during which the American flag was lowered to half-staff as the band provided a drumroll.
The Lincoln 7th/8th grade choir, led by Tom O’Mally, also performed as part of the ceremony.
The presence of local first responders provided an opportunity for students to recognize the courage and sacrifice of those who responded to the September 11 attacks, while also honoring the men and women who continue to serve and protect the community today.
For Lincoln students, the observance offered a meaningful opportunity to learn, remember, and reflect on an important moment in the nation’s history.
