Free Public Candidate Forum Coming To Alton YWCA
Candidates will introduce themselves and answer questions at a free, public event in the YWCA gymnasium also being livestreamed on Riverbender.com.
ALTON – Local voters will soon have a chance to hear from candidates running for Madison County and statewide offices in the Nov. 3, 2026 elections.
YWCA Southwestern Illinois and the Alton Section of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) are teaming up to host a Candidate Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026 at 7 p.m. in the YWCA gymnasium, located at 304 E. Third St. in Alton.

The event is free and open to the public, as both organizations aim to keep voters informed before they cast their ballots. Those unable to attend in person can watch the candidate forum live on Riverbender.com, with further coverage to follow.
Each candidate will make brief introductions at the start of the forum, which will also include a moderated question-and-answer session. Moderators may also accept questions from the audience if time allows.
Candidates in three different races are participating in the upcoming forum, including those running for Madison County Clerk and the Illinois House of Representatives and State Senate.
Madison County Clerk Linda Andreas is seeking re-election as the Republican incumbent and faces Democratic challenger Rachelle Bauerle. The County Clerk's Office administers voter registration and elections, maintains birth, death and marriage records, issues marriage licenses and performs important responsibilities related to property taxes and records for local taxing districts.
Current Ward 4 Alderwoman Rosetta Brown is running as a Democrat for State Representative in the 111th District, challenging incumbent Republican Amy Elik. The 111th District includes all or portions of Alton, Bethalto, East Alton, Godfrey, Granite City, Hartford, Mitchell, Roxana, South Roxana and Wood River.
State Senator Erica Harriss is seeking re-election as a Republican incumbent in the Illinois State Senate race for the state’s 56th District, which includes portions of Madison and St. Clair counties. Harriss faces Democratic challenger Marsie Geldert-Murphey.
YWCA and the NCNW are presenting the Candidate Forum as a nonpartisan community service. Neither organization endorses or supports any candidate for public office.
