Alton Police Department Announces Results Of Labor Day Safety Campaign
Police say the holiday enforcement push found no impaired driving or seat belt violations, while officers still issued dozens of speeding citations across Alton.
ALTON — The Alton Police Department conducted an impaired driving enforcement effort over Labor Day weekend in Alton as part of statewide safety initiatives aimed at impaired driving and seat belt use, resulting in one fugitive apprehended and 48 speeding citations.
The department collaborated with other law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners across the state for the Illinois Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” campaign.

“The Labor Day safety campaign was focused on impaired driving and seatbelt use by both driver’s and passengers and the Alton Police Department is happy to report that no violations for those offenses were observed. Prevention and deterrence are just as important as the enforcement of such laws,” Sgt. Mike Roderfeld said.
The effort was part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives, funded by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
