Duckworth Commemorates 25th Anniversary Of 9/11 Attacks With Day Of Service

CHICAGO — Combat Veteran and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) who served in the Reserve Forces for 23 years, today joined volunteers at Chicago Union Station to help pack 520,000 meals that will be donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository as part of a day of service commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. “Twenty-five years ago today, a heinous attack on our country took the lives of nearly 3,000 innocent people and changed the course of countless other American lives,” said Duckworth. “Today, we remember those we lost and reflect on the bravery shown by the first responders who ran toward danger—many of whom never made it home to their families or will forever live with illnesses caused by that day. Our hearts are with their families and loved ones, today and always. As we come together to pack 520,000 meals for local families in need, we honor this day through service and remind ourselves that the strength of our nation is found in how we support and serve one another.”
