Edwardsville Approves Plummer Park Youth Field Upgrades
12-and-under turf fields getting midlife repairs to extend their use, saving the city money long-term.
EDWARDSVILLE – A recently awarded turf repair contract is set to bring new life to the youth baseball fields at Plummer Family Park in Edwardsville.
Aldermen approved a sole source resolution awarding a $69,000 contract for the installation of infill and turf repairs at the Plummer Family Park 12-and-under (12U) baseball diamonds to Superior Turf Installation, Inc. at the Sept. 15, 2026 Edwardsville City Council meeting.

Alderwoman Elizabeth Grant said the move aims to add five to 10 years onto the 15-year life expectancy of the existing turf rather than replacing it entirely.
“By doing these repairs halfway through the life of this turf, we will be able to extend it beyond the 15 years, so we’re looking at 20 to 25 years of this turf by doing these repairs,” Warren said. “So they seem pricey, but in the long term, they’re cheaper than new turf.”
A “sole source” resolution allows the city to bypass the standard competitive bidding process for a project if approved by a two-thirds vote.
The city sought a sole source resolution for this project since Superior Turf Installation is the same company who originally installed each of the Plummer Park synthetic turf fields during two construction phases in 2019 and 2025. The company also made repairs to the park’s multipurpose synthetic turf fields in 2025.
A City Council memo from the Edwardsville Parks and Recreation Department notes Superior Turf Installation is “uniquely qualified to continue the maintenance and repairs given their experience and familiarity with our field,” including the method of installation and materials used.
With Aldermen William Krause and Jennifer Warren absent, the contract was awarded by a vote of 5-0.
