Alton Police Department Announces Road Closures For High School Homecoming Parade
Police say several streets will close Wednesday evening as the high school celebration moves through Alton, with parking restrictions starting earlier along the route.
ALTON — The Alton Police Department said temporary road closures and parking restrictions will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, in Alton for the High School Homecoming Parade. The closures are scheduled to begin at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, and will affect West Elm Street from Gerson Street to State Street and State Street from West Elm Street to Jefferson Avenue.

No parking will be permitted along the parade route from 3 p.m. Wednesday until the end of the parade.
The Alton Police Department said no-parking signs will be posted along the route and the restriction will be enforced.
The parade is expected to last approximately one hour and will conclude at Public School Stadium at West Elementary School in Alton. Roads will reopen as the parade clears the area and it is safe to do so, police said.
Residents and businesses along or near the parade route are encouraged to plan for travel and business operations during the closure. Residents in the Fairmount, Danforth and Logan Street neighborhoods can still access the area using Holland Avenue and Chouteau Street, according to the department.
Alton Police officers will be stationed along the parade route to assist with traffic control and help ensure the safety of students, parade participants, motorists, and spectators.
