Alton High School Prepares for Homecoming Week Festivities
Alton High School Homecoming will bring students and neighbors together for a parade, football and school spirit. Student Council leaders Eden Warford and Aiden Russell share a preview of the festivities.
ALTON - Alton High School is preparing to celebrate its Homecoming, and the community is invited to join in the fun.

Next week is Spirit Week at the high school, with the Homecoming Parade planned for Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026. This will be followed by the football game on Friday, Oct. 2, and the dance on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026. Student Council leaders Eden Warford and Aiden Russell are eager to come together as a school and connect with the larger Alton community.
“I feel like homecoming is just a really great kickoff to start off the year,” Warford said. “We’re really excited to just have a good, fun week.”
Students will enjoy Spirit Week from Sept. 26 through Oct. 2, with dress-up themes like “Adam Sandler Day” and “Decades Day.” Students will conclude the week by wearing Alton colors, so they’re ready for the Homecoming football game on Friday night.
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, the Homecoming Parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. at McKinley School in Alton. Students will travel 1.6 miles through the community to Public School Stadium. The Alton Community Unit School District #11 encourages families, alumni and neighbors to stand along the parade route and join in the fun.
Warford and Russell said this year’s parade has more floats than ever before, and they are eager to “hype that up” and share the students’ excitement with the community. Student organizations like the Marching 100, AFJROTC, Link Crew and several sports teams will walk the parade route.
The 2026 Homecoming Court includes seniors Laurn Conwell, Lydia Schrumpf, Courtaysia Slack, Alyssa Watson-Duey, Itzel Sanchez-Cook, Aondria Morgan, Donovan Ducey, Patrick Henessey, Aiden Stephens, Lucas Ventimiglia, Greyston Lee, and André Edwards. These students will join the parade as well. Immediately following the parade, the students will gather for a Homecoming Pep Rally.
The fun continues on Friday, Oct. 2, with the football game against Mascoutah High School at Public School Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the game promises to be a lot of fun.
The dance is planned for Saturday, Oct. 3. The Student Council decided on the theme “A Night at the Fair,” an “old-timey carnival theme” that Warford and Russell can’t wait to see come to life.
The two students, who serve as president and vice president of the senior class, added that the Student Council is excited to offer these events for their classmates. They shared that joining the Student Council has been a great experience that has allowed them to learn more about themselves and their community.
“It definitely helped us get more involved in like our community and our school,” Warford said. “We’ve been a part of so many really fun and great events that have done a lot for our students and even outside in the community. It’s just been really impactful for us.”
Warford and Russell thanked “the best principal ever,” Alton High School Principal Stacie Franke, for her support of the Student Council and the Homecoming fun. They added that she “makes us feel really seen and heard.”
As Homecoming week kicks off next Monday, they are looking forward to sharing the excitement with their classmates and community.
“We’re really excited,” Warford added. “It’s a good way to end off that football season and just kickstart that fall time and to just get everybody excited and give them something to look forward to.”
Riverbend residents are encouraged to support the school at the parade and football game. The community hopes students enjoy the Homecoming festivities.
